Amour Fantastique – Musical Theatre

AMou“A quality musical œuvre  in the genre of Les Misérables, Nôtre Dame de Paris, Phantom of the Opera, Chess.”

“Amour Fantastique” is not only a modern twist on Berlioz’s romance, it brings Hector Berlioz into the 21st Century – well known in France, he deserves to be better known in other countries.

The setting is Paris, romance capital of the world. The music is quality. And through scenery and French tainted songs, the audience really feels transported to Paris!

“Once written, my biggest dream personally became that I wanted to feel the tears in my eyes, when in Act One Aurelie rejects Hector, and I hear the full symphonic orchestra playing those three powerful chords!” (The Composer)

The premiere of “Amour Fantastique” was in 2010 in Auckland, New Zealand, a truly professional performance – thank you to the wonderful cast and director! (Scenes from the show in video clip on right)

Hector in Paris Now our ambition and passion is to spread the word so it may attract the attention of producers and organisations who share the same vision and who have the resources to unleash its real potential on a grand scale. We see our musical love story as an international gift to be enjoyed. A candle looses nothing by lighting another candle(M. Nabbous). .

We believe it has the potential to be successful on a worldwide stage.

“Patrick Geus would like to thank the numerous friends and chance encounters all over the world, who have provided the many puzzle pieces of ideas, enthusiasm and encouragement, to help the vision of Amour Fantastique turn into reality and bring it to life as a wonderful experience.”

French Composer Patrick Geus

He was only seven when he discovered a piano for the first time, and Patrick knew immediately that he had found a friend for life in music! At Uni he became part of a choir singing classics, and played guitar in rock bands.

In Paris in a band he recorded an LP/ 33 rpm (do people still know what that is?) and released two solo records –  “Toujours en Retard” can still be heard on-line, and “Besoin de Toi” played in night clubs. Working for Club Med in Corsica, New Caledonia, Bahamas, Mexico and Italy influenced his music, the Bahamas inspired the Reggae song in Amour Fantastique.

Coming to New Zealand, he performed for a number of years with a classically trained guitarist specialising in Latin and Brazilian music, which inspired the “Reverie Passion” guitar concerto in the musical.

Since then he learned Latin dancing in Argentina, which influenced “Vamos Compañeros”- and visited Cuba, which inspired his song “Tell me Che Guevara” (not in the musical – but audible on YouTube). He took his music to New York, not easy, but he knew he had to persevere, so he wrote the famous “Bicycle Song”!

His performances in the last couple of years include a Geelong music festival – and playing guitar on the beach at Byron Bay (Australia’s hippie spot) and even a didgeridoo accompaniment with guitar – he is definitely having fun and music is his life!
